FamFeed — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 25 May 2026
FamFeed (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a family meal-planning app. You can browse dishes,
plan a weekly menu, build cooking guides, and generate grocery lists. This policy explains
what information the app handles and why. We’ve tried to keep it plain and honest.
You do not create an account to use FamFeed. There is no email/password sign-up.
The app identifies your household with a randomly generated family identifier that is not
linked to your real-world identity.
Information you provide
- Family profile — a family name and the names (or nicknames) you choose for family members.
- Dietary preferences and allergies — any allergies or dietary restrictions you add for
family members, so the app can tailor recipes and flag ingredients. This is health-related information;
you choose whether to provide it, and you can leave it blank.
- Meal plans, menus, and grocery lists you create in the app.
- Imported links — if you use the “import reel” feature, the public social-media URL
(e.g. an Instagram Reel link) you paste in, so we can fetch its public caption to suggest a recipe.
Information collected automatically
- Family/member identifier — a random ID generated on your device to group your data.
It is not your name, email, or phone number.
- Usage & diagnostics — basic, aggregated analytics about how features are used
(for example, that a recipe was generated), and standard crash/diagnostic information, to keep the app
working and improve it. This data is not used to identify you personally.
How we use your information
- To provide the core features: storing your meal plans, menus, grocery lists, and family profiles.
- To generate recipes, cooking guides, and translations using AI.
- To sync your household’s data across the app.
- To understand usage in aggregate and improve the app’s reliability and features.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Third-party services
FamFeed relies on the following services to operate. Your data is shared with them only as needed to run the app:
- Google Firebase (Realtime Database, Cloud Functions, Analytics) — stores your app data
and processes requests on Google’s infrastructure. See the
Firebase Privacy & Security page.
- Google Gemini API — when you generate a recipe, cooking guide, translation, or import a
reel, the relevant text (e.g. dish details or an imported caption) is sent to Google’s generative-AI API to
produce the result. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Instagram / Meta (oEmbed) — when you import a reel, we request the link’s public caption
via Instagram’s public oEmbed endpoint. See Instagram’s
Privacy Policy.
Data retention and deletion
Because FamFeed has no account system, your data is tied to the random family identifier on your device.
- On-device data is removed when you delete the app from your device.
- Server-side data (the copy stored in Firebase for your family identifier) can be deleted
on request. Email us at the address below and we will delete your household’s stored data.
Children’s privacy
FamFeed is a household meal-planning tool intended to be set up and used by adults. It is not directed to
children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Family-member names you enter
are at your discretion; we recommend using first names or nicknames only.
Data security and international transfers
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) and stored on Google’s servers, which may be
located in the United States or other countries. We rely on Google’s infrastructure security measures to
protect data in transit and at rest.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the EU GDPR or California’s CCPA), you may have the right to
access, correct, or delete your information, or to object to certain processing. Because we don’t hold an
account or contact details for you by default, the simplest way to exercise these rights is to delete the app
and/or email us with your family identifier so we can locate and remove your stored data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we do, we’ll revise the “Last updated” date above. Material
changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
